YPSILANTI, Michigan (May 7, 2010) — Today, Third Ward Council member Pete Murdock filed nominating petitions to run for Mayor of the City of Ypsilanti. In announcing his candidacy, Murdock stated:
“Ypsilanti is facing difficult challenges over the next four years. The convergence of Michigan’s economic woes, population decline and foreclosure crisis all are impacting Ypsilanti. Loss of property tax revenue, State Shared Revenue, and the addition of Water Street debt have all hindered the City’s ability to provide services at levels our people expect. The Ypsilanti community has successfully overcome challenges before. Rolling up our sleeves and getting to work while being creative and flexible to adapt to changing conditions will be the key to our success."
"My unmatched experience, knowledge of issues and common sense approach best position me to tackle the issues before us. My proven leadership in having a dialogue with citizens and my council colleagues has established a track record of getting things done. All in all, my strong background in city affairs and effective leadership make me the voters' best choice for mayor of Ypsilanti and to guide us in the future."
